April 2008

Today I did a run through of a short triathlon as my workout. Managed to bike 30 min, run 30 min, and then swam for 45 min after. Took Q and T dogs for walk. Not quite at race pace but it was good to get a feel for doing all three in a row, one right after the other. Have such a hard time with training the last few weeks, feel like I have not been getting much faster, bought both the triathlon magazines that I could find at Hasting’s books in hopes for some advice that might take me past this plateau.

great workout today, hiked 4 miles, bicycled 6 miles, stair stepper for 34 min, eliptical for 30 min. Good day in general.

So folks what are the best off road/road versatile cycling shoes, what price should I be paying for a good pair????…(velcro is necessary I have come to this conclusion, because I need fast exits for my triathlons). What about transition bags? What all should I be packing in this transition bag…any little un-obvious details that I might miss?

A little sore from yesterdays 20 mile fast paced ride on my horse, but not as bad as I would have thought.

So my first hundred mile endurance ride comes up in June, a little freaked out about it but I can only hope my horse Flame and I will be ready. So today rode 20 miles on Flame, yesterday I rode 9 miles. Also ran 7 miles at about 6.2 mph at a 2 incline on treadmill. So today I am utterly exhausted, all the posting on my horse really takes it out of me fast…considering I only get to ride on the weekends when I go home to Bigfork from zoo town.  So the weekends are pushed to the limit. Also trained my young filly Whisper, got on her and rode her around while being ponied, so that there was no room for bronc ride like moments. First time I have rode Whisper, she is doing good, still lots to learn and lots of mileage needed. Am trying to get new cycling shoes with clips for triathlons, not a clue what is a good brand or what to look for other than velcro? Need a pair of shoes that will double for mountain biking and rode biking, in other words they need to be ‘walk-able’…also I think stiff is the way to go (so people tell me) what says the masses eh? Tough week ahead, studying for finals. Got to keep training, and walking dogs (T-dog is getting a little fat on Q-puppy treats). Sometimes I train so much I forget my T-dog needs an hour to two hour walk/hike also…where can I find time somedays?? Even with all the scheduling in the world there is never enough time for all I need to do.

rode 20 miles on horse

good ride, steady pace of trotting with some cantering, and small walk breaks

I have a hard time swimming, it is my least favorite of the three triathlon parts. I have a water ipod, but right now the ear piece is broken…so swimming is a little harder to do without a little extra entertainment. Also going to take the dogs for a few mile walk later tonight hopefully.

It seems like every day is a struggle to get out and workout, been at this training thing for four months and it feels like I am finally getting somewhere. Yet I need to get out and keep going if I am ever going to get where I want to go with my triathlons. I will never be a triathlete if I can not push myself further. So hard to plan races, because while I want to plan triathlons I don’t yet know what horse endurance rides I will get to do this summer.

Advice needed:

Anyone know what kind of wetsuit I should look for when I go to get one?

Sometimes I have a hard time trying to get to the gym…especially to swim, all I need to think of is that I don’t ever want to be 210 pounds again. Right now I have lost thirty one pounds but I still want to lose 35 more (and then I will be in peak shape). I am forcing myself tonight to get on my bike and pedal to the FRC at the University of Montana…then I will have to run/eliptical/stair-step…it is just so tough to be without training buddies. Yet, sometimes a person just has to be their own best motivator. Plus I can never return to that unhappy weight I was… it just isn’t going to happen! Yesterday I went for a three mile hike up Mount Sentinal, what a leg burner!!

Hardest part of training is the Core/strength workouts…I can never seem to make them any fun, anyone have suggestions?
